CHARTE MEETING 27.12.21
(Present: Nyima, Malcolm, Claire, Silvan, Martinha, Noé, Alvin, Martin)
Nyima: Talking about the elephant in the room (Malcolm’s comments on
abandoning the project if he doesn’t agree with the purpose putting in danger the
continuation of the project)
Round of reactions:

Claire; hoping that the objectives match everyone. Make people trust that they
wouldn’t leave the place without doing some sort of transition or preparation.
Silvan/Marinha, we will find together a solution (silvan). Martinha, we have to be
aware of the hierarchy, be aware of the weight of everyones opinion and power.
Alvin: Agrees to what’s been said.
Malcolm: Letter — raise the issue about power/responsibility. All preliminary steps
(views, individual aspirations) were meant to prepare when we talk about the
objectives and go forward. Leaving the project wouldn’t be just letting it fall, it
would be with preparation and care (like Claire said).
CHARTE PUNKT PRO PUNKT
1 POINT
Permanent residents — longer than 3 months (in a row) — part of the committee
which sign the status
Nyima: Make one category for the residents,
Alvin: There is clearly two kind of residents
Martinha: Agrees with Alvin, taking away the division is gonna be more confusing.
Coming to the MM and not knowing how to participate.
3 or more categories, what about people who come just to take a service? use the
studio for example? Not fitting in any category.
Reality and Charte (differences)
Claire, Artist residencies can be taken as the “normal way” (consume). Making the
step to make people aware of the project, and involved (requires an effort from our
side).
Malcolm: distiction about permanent and temporary is a legal part of the
association. Permanent — manage the place.
The project encourages people to share and get more dynamic about.
Alvin: adding to the charte a 3rd point towards making horizontality between
residents.
Noe: doesn’t agree with Alvin.
Nyima: The point doesn’t have to go into the charte.
Malcolm: charte— agreement of a “behaviour”. Private space vs. collective space.
Adding mention on “behaviours” would be appreciated.
2 POINT
Claire: Beautiful ambition, “en bonne connaissance” work in progress.
Agreement
3 POINT
check
4 POINT
CHECK
5 POINT

Malcolm: Permanent decide which space is private, which one is not? should we
ask the general assembly?
Alvin: people who live here know more about how the house works, etc.
Noe: CHANGING PERMANENT FOR COMMITTEE. AGREED, CHECK,
CHECK, PRINT
6 POINT
Malcolm; underlines the collectiveness of the project.
(Sleeping rooms for the temporaries are considered part of the shared space)
Martin: precision about how we conceive shared spaces, not in numbers but in
having a common agreement and try to put in place (e.g. talking to the people who
live in a specific space and understand their intention, their limits, etc.)
Martinha: likes the in-precision because leaves space to interpretation and be
open about it.
Reaction round
Martinha: Private / Collective, trust spaces, rotation of people make it hard to
create this trust (temporary residents).
Personal private — shared spaces,
1st floor, 2nd floor division, apartment are private, not considered as public
spaces. Private with friends coming over.
Claire: Private / Collective,
separation between floors was convenient at the time, permanent — temporary.
Architecture allows that.
People 1st floor, trying to make it open more than just for friends as an effort
towards the collective.
How flexible are actually the spaces.
Alvin: Trying to make common spaces more neutral.
1st floor and 2nd floor — split as a separation to the temporary residents (before
the pandemic).
Malcolm: Spaces are a resource, what is needed as an individual I reduce my
consumption of space and maximise my expense.
e.g. capitalistic view, I want to maximise my consumption taking all the space and
making it private.
Nyima: Agrees with the resource concept.
With time people were needing more personal spaces, (personal experience),
Permanent residencies — less permanent. Changing name … long term/short
term?
Martinha: Many collectives have a maximum time for residentcies to happen.
Noé: likes the 50 / 50 of space distribution

Silvan: Agrees with Charte
Private / Collective, finding balance between who need more collective or more
shares.
Luana: In the beginning of the project (idea of Nyima). Not everybody have the
same needs and there is really important to hear each other’s needs.
Malcolm: What is needed in collective spaces, what is the intention of the project,
(e.g. studio). Strong need of setting the spaces towards the purpose of the project.
Alvin: Two collectives, they are many different layers of collectives, apartments,
families, etc.. how much these two or more worlds are confronted to each other?
